a poll for my sanity...

So if any of you have talked to us recently, you would know of our recent house buying dilemma...

This is definitely proving to be a trial for my patience, something that I have never been especially good at in the first place, but it is apparently an amazing virtue of Bobby's!

So I have decided to request audience participation and am posting a poll regarding our housing options. (Note: we still reserve the right to make any decision we want regardless of the outcome of the poll, yet want your input anyway!!)

.
Awesome old house, Built in 1898- but with all the nitty gritty stuff updated already

1200 Square Feet- Huge Rooms- 10Ft ceilings and plenty of ideas for how to infuse our personality into the place.

The down side: This house is being sold by short sale. -Basically one step before foreclosure for the sellers, but means the bank takes a loss and they have to approve the sale too- and because they are going to lose money on it- they aren't in a hurry to make anything happen. In summary- We don't know how long we will have to wait to find out if we can get this house, and even if we spend 3 months waiting there isn't a guarantee.

Cute cottage style house- already pretty updated and finished.

Only 750 square feet, and a little more expensive

But the sellers want out by the end of the summer, so this one could be more of a sure thing.

So there you have is- Our dilemma- Exercise patience, but possible wait for something that won't pan out, or go for the sure thing, and have it be just not quite as perfect!

One more thing to factor in: We have to move from our current apartment by July 28th- so any waiting would have to involve moving somewhere else for a temporary home..

Happy Voting!

Who said buying your first home wasn't a fun experience!

***UPDATE*** We are going to try our gambling luck (and hopefully not try our patience!) and wait and see what happens with the house we love!!

Wow! That first house is AMAZING!!! i hope you get it! it's gorgeous on the inside, and it's so cheap too! it's cheaper than the other one! i'm so excited to see what happens.

OH Megan...I love the first one, because it has more space. One thing I would definitly consider is closet space/storage space. When I bought my first house and second house, we had zero closet space!! Nightmare!! I think both houses are cute and would out great for both of you. I would definitely go for the first one if you are into gambling and want to live with someone else for a while, but if you really want to get into a house soon and love the second one...just do it!!

The first one is amazing, but the second one is great too. I would wait until the last second for the dream home, and hope that by that time, the 2nd house sellers are more desperate to get out and take a lower offer.

Honestly, I might just go for house 2 for the peace of mind it would offer, then you could start looking forward to it and come to love it- unless you think you will always feel like you settled.

Sorry I'm no help. If it was me, I really think I would go for #2- it has a sweet backyard.

I think your answer is written in to your own post - The house we love vs. the house we like. The second house is nice, but face it you love the first house... Also - the smaller space will make it so that you grow out of it sooner... ( not in the size of your family just in your need for space) Love ya!

I'm sure that once you get into either house you will be glad you choose it! They both look great and how exciting to buy a house! Well, I cast my vote and am anxious to hear what you guys decide!

go with what you love and enjoy learning patience. geoff had the same issue with finding jobs, had great offers and came down to two. so he picked the one that he loved and thought he'd be the best. and it all work out in the end. he loves his job despite traveling every other week, but he's great at it. if its meant to be there is no denying and things will work out.

i have no more non-advice to offer than i did last night, but i'm excited to see what you decide. can you handle waiting so long for the house that you have no guarantee of getting?? if not, lo-ball the other people and see what happens. . . love you guys!

Hey, go for the one you love... and Bobby's size really does need to be considered! Under 800 square feet might feel a bit claustrophobic after a while! So I vote gamble and wait for the first one you love. The worst that could happen is you wouldn't get it and have to settle for another house you just "like". Love ya- Mom

hey those houses suck!!!!!the first one is so old it was probably built by a polygamst for his 49th wife and will soon be taken back by the state (eminent domain)and given to texas as evidence in their case against the crazies. what you really need to do is move down here to the promised land, as prophesied in the BOOK of Geoff!!!

O.K So here is my vote. I say to go for house number 1. YOu can save money while you wait and get somethign that you love. It is not meant to happen, then something else will come around. Don't rush into anything. also which house will re-sale better???? Which has a better location???? Yard??? Room to grow (maybe a family)!!! There is a lot ot think about. YOu don't want to move again any time soon, so I would go with the bigger one.
Last piece of advice. Pick one and PRAY about it, you can never go wrong when you listin to the man up-stairs!!!!
Good Luck
p.s we will be in Utah june 28- july 12. I would love to get together with you. Let me know!!

So I just looked at the pictures and I think number 2 is super cute, but Pray about it!!!

hmmmm, well, I say wait for the first one. You don't want to feel as though you have just "settled" for the second one because it was more convenient. In a year or two from from now you don't want to look back and think you were just too impatient, you know? 'cause what is a few months, and a little inbetween-moving when you will be spending years in the home once you get it?
It is all so exciting!! Good luck, and if you don't end up geting the first one, I'm sure there are many other ones that you will "like" anyway.

Go for the house you love! Houses you like come and go, but houses you love aren't that easy to find. Good Luck!!

Scott says wait for the house you love too. It's bigger, better priced, and you love it. If you get it, it will be worth the wait and a little inconvenience in the interim.
Love you guys! Good luck

so it says hours left to vote? does that mean you'll put up a new blog post or do we have wait another several weeks?? to know. JK.

we just saw a news real on "short sales" and how they are a win win IF the listing agent is diligent about negotiating with the bank. i guess it takes lots of daily bargaining with the bank and not letting up. good luck!!
